This is what I would like to refer to as a rough recording. It's still pretty listenable, but this is probably for Gram completists only. His voice....which I usually don't like....is very good on here, not the recording but his voice. It suites these recordings well. And of course Emmylou is on this one too....her voice as always is angelic. The band is pretty hot too.MP3 @ 192

Oh, man...take me back to my youth...my first birthday back in the world (that is, out of the Army) since 1969. I don't know if Oliver's is still around, and WBCN doesn't play anything remotely resembling Gram Parsons or anything else they played back then. I remember catching the WBCN in-studio stuff with a plug for the live gigs. I lived in Massachusetts then, and I was a mere 23 years old, so it was off to Ollie's both nights.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the songlists for both nights, you'll notice it says "incomplete" after the Hang On Sloopy medley. The song might be cut off, and so is the rest of the show. Damn shame. He was good.
Thanks for this. How could you not like Gram's voice?! Even when he's off-key, drunk (or whatever) he still had more passion in his voice than 93% of what's around today.

ReplyDeleteas far as Gram's voice. I don't deny his influence...it is huge. and Hickory Wind is one of my all time favorite songs. I just don't like his voice maybe 60% of the time. Mostly on his solo albums. I like this recording alot better.
