I'm pulling this from another blog, I found it in the archives a while back.....and man this is just a phenomenal bootleg. Manassas was a vastly under-rated country rock band consisting of most notably, the mighty Stephen Stills and Chris Hillman (ex-byrd, founding member of the burrito brothers) . This is their inaugural concert as the band Manassas according to the insert (which is not in the download, but can be found here). They run through some of the Manassas songs, some Stills songs, some CSNY songs and even a Byrds song, aBurritos song, and a Buffalo Springfield song. Download this if you like vintage country rock sounds, you will not be dissapointed. (and a thanks to Zen Archer @ The Clock That Went Backwards for this one)
Here's a nice little acoustic set from my latest musical obsession. It's a damned good recording....really intimate, like acoustic shows are supposed to be. Recorded at Alley Katz in Richmond as the opening act for DBT frontman Patterson Hood. Fans of Uncle Tupelo's "March 16-20" album will surely dig this, it's got the same vibe as that. Some of my favorite cuts off this are "Push The Pedal", "Pale Colored Hue", and "Okeechobee". Definitely check this out guys if you are into Uncle Tupelo's acoustic side.
Per request, here is a collection of murder ballads and other songs about killin'. I was surprised at how many I actually found in my collection, but I narrowed the scope down to more traditional sounding songs which meant I had to cut alot of good stuff like Steve Earle's "Billy Austin" & "The Devil's Right Hand", DBT's "Nine Bullets", "Decoration Day", & "Cottonseed", Old 97's "The Other Shoe", Johnny Cash's "Cocaine Blues" & "Sound of Laughter", Hendrix's "Hey Joe".....lots of good stuff, but I think what I came up with has a much more consistent flow.
