03-Steve Earle-Jericho Road
off his just released Washington Square Serenade

04-The Dexateens-Makers Mound
killer killer track here....love the guitar stutter on the final solo. off last years Hardwire Healing

05-Bill Kirchen-Rocks Into Sand
A Kirchen original off his latest Hammer of the Honky Tonk Gods. This is an atypical track for Kirchen but I love it

06-Pieta Brown-Rollin' Down The Track
Greg Brown's daughter, this is a really nice song off her just released album Remember The Sun

07-Magnolia Electric Co.-What comes after the blues
off Jason Molina and company's latest, Nashville Moon

08-Bettye Lavette-Take Me Like I Am
The lead track off Bettye's latest DBT backed Patterson Hood produced album Scene of The Crime

09-The Gourds-Shake The Chandelier
The Gourds are channeling Doug Sahm on this one. Off last years Heavy Ornamentals

10-Bruce Robison-When It Rains
Just one of the many killer songs off his 2007 EP It Came From San Antonio

11-Gene Clark-Polly
This is an oldie, but it's a favorite of mine and I've really been diggin' on it lately

12-King Wilkie-Crazy Daisy
Off their fantastic 2007 album Low country Suite

13-Micky & The Motorcars-Carolina Morning
Love the steel guitar on this one....vintage country rock. Very reminiscent of Reckless Kelley. Off last year's Careless

14-Two Cow Garage-Come Back To Shelby
catchy little rocker off this year's album Three

15-Wrinkle Neck Mules-Okeechobee
Lazy country rocker off last years Pull The Brake

16-The Avett Brothers-I Would Be Sad
off there latest, 2007's Emotionalism

17-Justin Townes Earle-Yuma
Steve Earle's son lives up to his middle name on this one. Off this years album of the same name

18-The Pines-Careless Love
Bo Ramsey's son's band...cool little song off their latest Sparrows in the Bell

19-The Be Good Tanyas-For The Turnstiles
Pretty good Neil Young cover off last years album Hello Love

20-Chuck Prophet-Three Days Straight
Off the excellent Peter Case Tribute....song about a miner trapped

21-Cory Branan-Tall Green Grass
Cory Branan, that guy from the Lucero song. off last year's 12 Songs

  1. I've always loved "Polly" too. The Walkabouts did a great version on their covers album but I have to say the new version on Raising Sands by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss might just be the definitive version (listed as "Polly Come Home" on that CD.

  3. Coincidentally, I just heard another version of "Polly" on the new live CD by Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes.
    To bad Gene is around to get some of these royalty checks that are about to start rollin' in.

    Polly.....that's awesome there are those other versions. I will have to check those out. I've only heard good things about the Alison Krauss/Plant thing too....need to check that out.

    I don't have alot of what you guys requested. I will put it on my list of crap to check out though.

    (the original post was alot better than that :)......you'll just have to use your imagination though)
