Neil Young & The International Harvesters - Austin City Limits 1984

Here's a sweet Neil Young boot from Austin City Limits 1984. Now I searched and searched for a proper cover for this but could not find one (which is strange when it comes to Neil Young boots). So I'm thinking somebody must have dicked with the track list or sequencing at some point. Regardless, it's a killer set full of country rock goodness.......big emphasis on the COUNTRY part of that statement. Check out the country version of Hawks & Doves on this thing.
1. Are You Ready For The Country?
2. Hawks & Doves
3. Comes A Time
4. Bound For Glory
5. Let Your Fingers Do The Walking
6. Are There Anymore Real Cowboys?
7. Heart Of Gold
8. Amber Jean
9. Roll Another Number (For The Road)
10. Southern Pacific
11. Needle and The Damage Done

Wilco - Who Were You Thinking Of? (Live From St. Louis, MO 4-25-95)

You know usually I'm not much of a Wilco fan, and sometimes I regret "not getting it". But I still dig their first couple albums, and this here boot is a fine testament to those two albums. Sprinkled with covers and Jeff Tweedy's Uncle Tupelo songs, this thing flows like fine wine (wine....also another thing "I don't get"). If you're like me and never really got Wilco, but love Uncle Tupelo give this a listen and it might open your eyes a little (check out the song "It's Just That Simple"). If you're already a Wilco fan, well then I guess you know what to expect! There is a cool acoustic version of Gun on here (one of my fave UT songs)

Scott H. Biram - Riley's Tavern (Hunter, TX 1-5-07)

The last Scott H. Biram post got a lot of love, so I thought I would throw up another one. Man this guy is killer, just him, a guitar, lot's of whiskey and a stompbox. Dirty old one man band indeed. This thing came with a shit ton of pictures from the show, I didn't include them, but some of them were pretty damn funny. The best ones are included on the artwork (which also came with it). Must've been a hell of a show.

Check out Scott's tour schedule here

Uncle Tupelo - Live at The Blue Note 7-22-88

Man I love this show, thought I would throw it up here to make up for all the missed days (well I wouldn't say I was missing them Bob :P ). This is a very early Uncle Tupelo show....mostly covers.....but killer covers. What they are doing here is paying their dues....."if I only had a dollar........ for every time I had to play while people sat there drunk" kind of stuff. Sound on this is almost official release quality...infact with just a little mastering this would make an excellent addition to the UT catalog (wink, wink...nudge, nudge).

Justin Townes Earle doin' some Townes

This guy put out probably my favorite album of '08. I think he says it all in this vid, from "If you want to hear Steve Earle songs, go to a Steve Earle show" to "Townes Van Zandt is the greatest songwriter who ever lived....period....stop.......exclamation point"

Truesounds - Sept. '08

Another month, another comp....This one has some damn fine songs on it. Lot's of new releases and a couple old goodies. Featured on here are a lot of newly released tracks; from Mudcrutch (AKA Tom Petty's 35th class reunion), Blue Mountain (the killer title track to their latest), Old Crow (they found a new drug to sing about), Reckless Kelley (stealing their lyrics from Jeremiah Wright :P), Chris Knight (his new album is classic Chris Knight), Bruce Robison (sounding just like Bruce Robison), a bizarre one from Fred Eaglesmith, new band Band of Heathens (no it's not the Black Crowes), a track from the new Kasey Chambers duet album with Shane Nicholson, and so one and such. I got lazy this month and just took a screen shot of the track list. Enjoy

Link Problems Fixed!

I have discovered what the actual problem with the links is. For some reason, Blogger does not like the apostrophes in the link names, so it cuts them off. Everything has been re-upped now.

So here's a question what site do you guys prefer to DL from? As I said, I didn't realize how annoying sharebig was, and was just using it because it was easy to upload batch loads to, and it takes files larger than 100 mb.

That is my main requirement. I refuse to split the zip files because I find that (downloading them AND uploading them) much more annoying than any site. Someitimes there is no way around that (like for very large loads such as Stories From Moondawg's Tavern) but it's a last resort for me.

I love sharebee but I find their 100mb limit very restricting. At one time they allowed 150....which would make me happy.....but they went back and changed to 100 ...grrrrr...

The Backsliders - Southern Lines

You wanted more Backsliders...you got more Backsliders. This is their final album from 1999, and while not as good as it's predecessor it's still damned good. This is another group I wish would get back together (take a page from Blue Mountain's book guys) and put out a killer album. As mentioned in the comments section of previous backsliders posts, there are numerous bands who have this band name. A blues band from Texas, a rock band from Australia...but to me, the Backsliders will always be a BAR BAND FROM NORTH CAROLINA!!

Red Star Belgrade - Where The Sun Doesn't Shine (Out of Print)

Red Star Belgrade are one of those groups that I just love for no explainable reason. I've never met another fan, and I've only been able to turn one other person onto their music that I know of. To me they capture everything I love about music. Rawness especially. They really remind me of Neil Young and Crazy Horse....that distorted sloppy guitar on the edge of falling apart yet still so beautiful, lyrics that had no choice but to rise from the singers deepest depths of his psych only to blend perfectly with those fabulous crunchy guitar riffs. My introduction to the band was a 10" single I bought for $3 at my local record shop called "Lose Your Temper Gain An Injury"....one spin of that and I was hooked. A year or so later I see this CD in the same store and snatched it up....it has been a favorite ever since.

Now a little history of the band, don't bother searching for them, because in the age before the world wide web it seemed like a good idea to name your band after a prestigious soccer franchise known to everyone in the world except of course anyone in the US. RSB consists of Bill Curry and his wife Grahma Harris. Bill does the guitar, songwriting and singing, with his wife filling in the rest. The story I heard was that Bill was a well known music critic and writer for NME and he got fed up with all the BS and decided to start his own band. Well I for one am glad he did. In 1995 they released 2 singles, the previously mentioned "Lose Your Temper" and the haunting "Union, SC" about child murderer Susan Smith. That song landed them a gig on the Today show as Susan Smith was a big story back then . I've never seen this footage but would love to as I wonder how they got around the dreaded "n" word. This national attention gave RSB the exposure they needed and within a year their first full length album was out on a small indie out of Chapel Hill, NC. Not sure if it got national distribution, but it sure made it to my neck. They've done a few more albums since then, and as far as I know they are still going (I Hope). Enjoy

Scott H. Biram - Preachin' and Hollerin' (Hard To Find)

Here's an early Scott H. Biram album (that's currently going for $95 on Amazon...HOLY SHIT!). This thing is killer. Just raw country-blues-punk-a-billy-whatever you want to call it (Scott calls it depression era metal :D) If you like honky tonk music, you'll probably like this. If you like mountain style bluegrass, you'll probably like this. If you like old school rockabilly, you'll probably like this. If you like punk music, you might like this. Hell if you like gospel music you might even like this. Me personally, I love it.
