This is a great, great boot. Chuck Prophet fans will not want to miss it. If you are new to the world of Chuck Prophet, this would also make a great intro to this fine artist. Chuck has been around for quite a while, doing his time in the 80's with X and Blasters contemporaries Green On Red until going solo in the early 90's. He's been solo ever since, occasionally pulling session duty and touring with other artists such as Kelly Willis, Lucinda Williams, and Warren Zevon. This show was recorded in support of the acclaimed 2007 album Soap and Water. Chuck has a new album coming out in late October on Yep Roc called Let Freedom Ring, which you can watch the short documentary about below this post. Chuck is also currently touring Europe, so any of you Europeans out there make sure to go see him.
PS. Folks who liked the Tim Easton will probably want to give this a try. Make sure to listen to the song "You Did (Bomp Shooby Dooby Bomp)", my favorite off this set.

I've seen Chuck Prophet several times, with Green On Red of course, the Melkweg and Paradiso shows in Amsterdam 1985 were absolute knockouts (at the Paradiso they shared the stage with Rain Parade).
ReplyDeleteSome years later I saw Prophet in Leiden (I think), Holland. Playing a set of almost 2.5 hours for a handful of people. He had just his second solo album out. And he was then, and still is a guitar master.
Glad to get this set now as I had to leave all my tapes in Holland when I moved to Malaysia. This show is highly recommended, also for non Chuck Prophet fans:)
