This one is great, one of my first ups from almost 2 years ago. This was back before I was making covers for everything too. I compiled all these tracks back in the days of napster and burnt them to 2 CDs. 74 minute CD's, remember those.....when you couldn't get the 80 minute ones :)
I'm still very fond of the ACL tracks off this. Has that been released to DVD yet? If not if really should be.

This 2-disc set is comprised of a full concert at the Crocodile Cafe on May 29, 1999. Their full Austin City Limits set from Jan. 26, 1998, and a few tracks from the Gypsy Tea Room on an unknown date which are primarily Buck Owens covers. The highlight here is definitely the Austin City Limits set which is all songs from Too Far To Care. The Crocodile Cafe concert is good in it's own right, as I think the songs off Fight Songs sound much better live than in studio.
Awesome. Thank you! I love the 97s.
ReplyDeleteThe Gypsy Tea Room show was around July of 1998, I believe. It was streamed on Broadcast.com for a long while.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the best 97's show I ever saw. They had been holed up in the studio working on Fight Songs and debuted about half the album that night, alongside the Buck Owens covers.
Also the night I realized that I liked a certain young lass who is now my missus more than I had admitted before. Great night.
cant get it to play, what am i doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteYou rock. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIt was popping up some messages when I was unzipping - is the ACL set really only 6 songs?
ReplyDeleteSweet! I was relatively late in coming to the Old97s, so I missed a lot of chances to see them live when they came to Seattle. Got to see them twice last year, once at the Showbox, which was great, and again at a secret show in a small venue, which was awesome.
ReplyDeleteMorren, great story! Glad to (finally) know where those files come from.
ReplyDeleteAlex, yes the ACL set is only 6 songs, they only played half a show.
As for the guy who can't get it to play....not sure, did you unzip it?
Everyone else....thanks!
Thanks for this. Live stuff from the Old 97's is not so easy to find. There seems to be some artwork included, but it won't open really with WinRar;
ReplyDeleteam I doing something wrong?
Greetings, Rank Stranger
