Downloader's blues

So I've been getting some feedback that sharebee sucks....that it's full of adware and God knows what else. I will switch to something else if I can find a suitable alternative. The reason I have been using it is I was impressed with the longevity of the files I've been uploading. Also they allow 150mb uploads which to me is pretty important because I hate splitting files (see all the problems with those in the comments of any file I split).

So here are my requirements for a good upload site: Long lifespan for the downloads, at least 150mb uploads. That's pretty much it. Oh and easy to download too.....that's important to you guys of course (which means no download limits, etc....)

So I stuck a poll on the side....I misspelt Sharebee as Sharbee.....that's OK.....that's how I pronounce it anyway.....like Shar the singer....you know Sonny & Shar!!! :)

  1. i had similar complaints re: my use of megauplaod at highnoonsaloon.

i looked into switching but couldn;t find anything remarkably different to what i was using that didn't have it's own share of complaints.

    why fix what's not broke?

  2. Sharebe works but can be slow and I sometimes get problems because it tells me I can't proceed as I have disabled popups (naturally!)or because it is doing something with the files. At this point in time I find Megaupload the fastest and most consistently available. It is also easy to use and there are ways of allowing very big files - I've downloaded single files of over 200 Mb. I'm not really worried either way as long as you keep posting great music and the end result is a complete album downloaded.

  3. You know, due to the frequency of my downloading I have definite opinions about this. I don't like Rapidshare because of their policiy towards repeat use for FREE. Sharebee (and its linked services...Badongo, Depositfiles, etc) is fine. Hey, we're getting this for FREE...what's a popup here and there. I'll swuffer those. I finally signed up for the NEXT level of Megaupload which cuts my time in half and didn't cost a cent. I don't think that there is anything out there better than what you have. I downloada huge an mount and would have you stay where you are.

  4. Always works fine for me, just click and sit back, if it's worth having it's worth waiting :)

  5. I thinks Sharebee´s OK. Nothing wrong with me, no shareware whatsover, but I´m a Mac user...hey man, how about re-upping the Commander Cody files? Cheers! MooneyRooney

  6. I have not had any issues with Sharebee. No problems with spyware or anything. If you are using good anti-virus/anti-malware software, it should not be an issue. And yes, I am using a PC with Vista (ACK!).

  7. You already know how I feel about Sharebee, but I will elaborate a little. It's a mirror server, and as such it's vulnerable to attacks that link onto the pop-ups and the actual download server. Taken outside Sharebee, they work pretty well. Rapidshare has no pop-ups, and at least one blogspot (Walldill at http://walldill.blogspot.com/) has found a way to use them for large single downloads (and we all know how to get around Rapidshare's annoying time limitiation). Mediafire never bogs down with pop-ups, but it does have size limitations - but it doesn't have any time limitations, and, as such, is my particular favorite.

Keep On Truckin' at http://keepontruckinblog.blogspot.com/ just switched from Rapidshare to Mediafire, and Buster is pretty partial to lengthy recordings of indeterminate origin (he loves the Dead - need I say more?)

Megaupload is fast, but occasionally bogged down by time limits, and they are more prone to pop-ups and adware attacks than other servers. I have to really want the downloads really really bad to use it, and if I do, it isn't part of Sharebee (where it's most vulnerable).

So, I'm voting dump Sharebee, and go with Mediafire.

  8. Something for ATS to consider is how many "don't change its" and "indifferents" will or won't stop coming by ATS if the server is changed. In other words, if the number of downloaders won't go down no matter which way the final decision goes, it might be easier to decide.

  9. Not having a rapidshare account, I loathe their slow speeds for non-members. I have had not one single problem with sharebee or mediafire for that matter. I get no pop-ups or problems of any kind. But you should do what you want to do in any case. I think its true that all of us would cope with whatever way you want to go...

  10. Well said, BK. Rapidshare is a royal pain, but I will say that since I switched to Mozilla Firefox I'm getting faster downloads (and of course there's that way to get around they waiting between downloads all non-paying downloaders like myself dislike so much).

That said, to Rapidshare's credit they don't get whacked with pop-ups or adware or malware like other servers (I think it has to do with the pop-ups, which explains why ad-heavy Sharebee is such easy prey). It is, however, a frequent victim to vigilante deleters (just ask over at Zinhof, currently under attack).

So I wouldn't use them, either. Keep On Truckin' Blog just dumped them. I'd go with Mediafire. They usually have one pop-up and that's it. Never been hit with adware, malware, or anything like that.

Would you "No, don't do its" and "indifferents" be okay with that?

  11. So...depending on how you read this...

The "don't change it" votes won, but with the "dump it" and "indifferent" votes combined, it's a split right down the middle.

Either that, or the "dump its" are swamped.

Does anybody specifically object to dumping Sharebee, to the point that you'd leave ATS, or are you staying no matter what?
