Here is a nice little set from the Gourds which features some nice discussion and some damned fine music. This is from a radio show on KUT FM in Austin, TX in support of last year's "Heavy Ornamentals" album (which is good, go get it). If your not familiar with The Gourds, they are a texas band that blends folk, tex-mex, bluegrass, and other random stuff into one yummy stew called The Gourds. They are probably most famous for their oft-mislabeled cover of Snoop Dogg's Gin & Juice....which is great, but they are so much more than that. (AND IT'S NOT A FUCKING PHISH SONG PEOPLE!!!!)
Anyway, give this a listen whether you are an established fan, a new fan, or someone who just likes good music.

I've been a Gourds fan for many years. Seeing them in a cramped room with shitty ambiance brings out the best in them so if you're in Austin and they're playing THE HOLE IN THE WALL it's a must-see-show.
ReplyDeletePHISH getting credit for "GIN & JUICE" (the BEST party song of the last decade, IMHO)has been a crime for too long! Phish could NEVER come up with the amazing arrangement The Gourds have given that song. They would blow Phish right off any stage!
Jimmy Smith is the band's secret (or not so secret weapon) his soul/funk bass playing is out of this world! He might look like he's falling apart at the seams but DAMN HE COOKS.
