I'm gonna do a few "samplers" of certain artists, here's what I have planned:
Southern Culture On The Skids (by request)
Old 97's (almost by request)
Ray Wylie Hubbard (my favorite guy)
Drive By Truckers (my other favorite)
Scott Miller/V-Roys (another favorite)
70's Texas Music (by request)
there's a few others I could do, but I'll leave it at that for now....If anybody has any requests for one of these samplers, I'll try my best to fulfill it.

I'd love to see a great, well selected, 70's era Texas singer/songwriters comp.
ReplyDeleteSo many great artist to choose from. The obvious to the more "cult-ish" (Terry Allen?) Thoughts?
P.S. "texas" of course, does not necessarily mean birthplace.
wow, now that's an endeavor. I've made mixes like that before, but nothing official. I might give it a shot cause as Ray Wylie would say, I like Texas....I like music, I like Texas Music.
ReplyDeleteright now, just off the top of me head, here's what I'm coming up with
Towne's Van Zandt
Billy Joe Shaver
Willy Nelson (obligatory)
Waylon Jennings (obligatory)
Steve Young
Ray Wylie Hubbard
Blaze Foley
Bob Neuwirth
Joe Ely
Jimmy Dale Gilmour
Butch Hancock
Flatlanders
Jerry Jeff Walker
David Allan Coe
B.W. Stevenson
Doug Sahm
Kinky Friedman
Terry Allen
Yeh, I could definitely do one of those....I'll work it up, I'm looking forward to it now.
and guy clark....how could I have forgotten him.
ReplyDeleteWas Steve Earle on that list?
ReplyDeleteGuy Clark for sure, Earle barely(?) makes the "70's" time cut. But that is one damn impressive list wouldya' say? Maybe Rodney Crowell, Mickey Newbury, Radney Foster and OF COURSE - Kris Kristofferson....but I'm just spit ballin' here.
