Drive-By Truckers - Rare Tracks

OK, so we'll get to the sampler's shortly. First I wanted to post this, it's a little "EP" I worked up of some rare DBT tracks. Now half of these are from the "Blessing and a Curse" bonus disc....which I've already posted, but I felt they deserved to be on here. The real gems of course (unless you haven't heard the bonus disc either) are the cover of Skynyrd's "Every Mother's Son" and the Dirty South outtake "Great Car Dealer War". This actually makes a nice little cohesive EP and has satisfied me as something new to listen to until a new DBT album comes out (they are in the studio RIGHT NOW!)

Some other DBT news: They are currently doing their "Dirt Underneath Tour" where they are road testing their new songs. I also read there is some kind of documentary coming out possibly sometime this year.....HOLY SHIT, I cannot wait for that.

  2. hot damn -- thanks for putting that together and sharing! I have some issues with the whole "bonus" disc material ...esp for those artists that(okay marketing industry biz gurus who force the artist to) offer multiple bonus materials at differing outlets (ie best buy get 3 exclusive tracks, wal-mart gets a different 3 etc etc ad nauseum) -- talk about fleecing your real fans ...esp when they intend to re-release as a toss off for the contract commitment about 2 years down the line (Springsteen's extensive marketing of the seeger sessions comes to mind) ...how about a hook up for the fans...and thus we come to the beauty of the internet! sorry for the rant, but needed to get it out!
keep up the great work.....back to the tunes

  3. I know what you mean Alex. Take the newest Son Volt release, bonus disc only available through best buy, and a whole slew of extra tracks only available on iTunes. It's a call the record comanies make to try to move more albums but all it ends up doing is making the hardcore fans end up buying something multiple times.
As far as the DBT bonus disc, I actually had bought that disc the day it came out....but you had to buy it through a virgin store or something.....which I didn't find out till later. I had to buy it on Ebay.
