Songwriter's Circle, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 10-2-05 (Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Dave Alvin, Verlon Thompson)


Hot damn! This is a good one folks. Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Dave Alvin, and Verlon Thompson just sitting around on stage trading songs and stories. Only thing that tarnishes this show a little is when Steve Earle dares to play a song of his then new album "The Revolution Starts...Now!", but hey that can be excused....I mean how was he supposed to follow "Desperados"??? Put this one on, turn it up loud, and wish you were there. Shows like these make me really appreciate all the tapers out there. I probably don't say it enough.....actually I don't think I ever have on here....but thanks guys....thanks to all the tapers out there who capture these glorious shows. Especially thanks to the ones who know how to do it right.

    Thx for this. Have been a Joe Ely fan for at least 15 years. Have really started enjoying Guy more as I learn more about him and Townes. And Dave and Steve have hit by radar off and on over the years. So really looking fwd to this show.

    I know there's a lot of people who do not like Steve Earle's political stuff. I am not American, I do think Earle has a lot to say. But apart of that, the so called "desperados"... uhmmm aren't desperado's in their own kind a kind of rebels? Without wanting to go into the discussion of being pro or anti Earle's political statements, the song, imho does fit in the setlist.

    And yes, I am also a great Joe Ely fan, I saw him back in 1987 (I think) playing in Amsterdam for about 100 people and the roof went off the house... (Lord of the highway period).

    this is great...the sound is a bit muddled, but driving and listening to this was awesome...as far as earle's warrior song, i hit ff after two verses..."we get it steve"....he has much better tunes to offer.
