In honor of one of our fallen compadres, it's a Klassic Kuntry® weekend here at A Truer Sound. So without further delay, I present to you what I consider to be The Hag's greatest live album.

Recorded in Philidelphia, this album is a great companion piece to the live in Muskogee album from the previous year in much the same way that Johnny Cash's "Folsom" & "San Quentin" albums are. Standout tracks include his typical hits but specifically the song "Harold's Super Service" (only available on this album) and the impersonations medley which includes impersonations of Marty Robbins, Hank Snow, Buck Owens, & Johnny Cash. Also worth mentioning is the frantic version of "Fightin' Side of Me" which has alway been my favorite version.

ReplyDeleteAnd a great post here, as well, sir. I'd never heard this before. A real treat.
ReplyDeleteHanszun is an asshole.
ReplyDeleteIf you think you are supporting the artists by playing games
ReplyDeleteYOU BELONG IN HONKY TONK PRISON
Let the musicians make their money.
Remember what you do is totally illegal so don't be so surprised if you end up sitting in jail eating a big pile of horse shit.
ok, that was strange. Anyone want to clue me in on what's happening here?
ReplyDeleteI don't think our friend knows what honky tonk prison is. (Doesn't sound like much of a country fan, does he?)
ReplyDeleteBut to address his concern, no, I don't think I'm supporting the artists. At least, I don't mean to. I'm not a record company employee; that's not my job.
What I do is share good music with folks who want to hear it. If you think I'd buy the music that I download from blogs like this -- if you think I could afford it -- you're mistaken. I do buy music; in fact, I already own about half the records posted on this particular blog so far. But the other half is new to me, and if it turns out I like one of the records, well, that artist now has a much greater chance of earning some of my money down the road than if I'd never listened to him at all.
That's what this is about. It's like having a friend burn you a CD for a band he's been trying to get you to listen to. And if a little blog like mine is ruining an artist's financial situation, well, he ought to get out on the road and go earn his living, huh?
Remember, I also put work into getting this music out to people who might want to give it a spin. That puts me more or less in the same position as a record company marketing rep. The difference is that I do this for free, in the off hours from my real work, and I don't threaten to prosecute the fans for spreading good music around.
ok, WTF who is this Hanszun guy?
ReplyDeleteI found this and it kind of creeped me out: http://hanszun.tripod.com/id7.html
so if I followed this right, was Hanszun behind "A Great Name For A Blog" and deleted his own links then deleted HTP's and mine?
this looks like a whole shitload of drama I don't want to be involved with.
I saw that hanszun tripod site last week when totally fuzzy linked it. I didn't understand it then, and if anything I think I'm more confused now. But between the two of them, I'm not sure which one's crazier, Hanszun or this mysterious anti-Hanszun crusader. Frankly, I wish they'd both just go away and stop deleting our links.
ReplyDeleteyeh, I'm pretty confused too. I just don't feel like dealing with it.
ReplyDeleteWho the fuck wants to be supporting the artists. I'm not a record company employee either. Fuck 'em. That is not my job.
ReplyDeleteIf they don't like it they should get another job. Nobody tells them to work in a record store. Nobody tells them to work for a record company. In fact nobody tells them they have to make albums. They can gig at night and have a day job like the rest of us. FUCK them.
Most of them are big millionaires. George Jones drinks his ass off all day. If he didn't have so much money the fucker would not be driving a lawn mower. Work is good for him.
This kind of blog does share good music. It is just like sharing it with a few friends. Why can't we have a thousand friends? Two thousand? The more blogs there are the more free music we all get.
What is wrong with that?
I would buy music if I could afford it but I can't. So too fucking bad. They should make albums a dollar each.
If I buy a record it's mine to do as I please. If I download one and decide to put it on a blog that is what it was meant for. Why is that hard to understand.
The more free music I get the better the chance I will have heard of an artist. That is what they want. They want to be famous. So?
I agree if your little blog is ruining an artist's financial situation, well, he ought to get out on the road and go earn his living, huh? He is just a piece of shit no talent if he can't afford a few thousand free downloads on a bunch of blogs or forums.
Who does he think he is? The stupid fuck. Who does he think he is? I repeat, WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS? He made music. So what. I get free music on the radio too.
Remember, the guy who does the blog works harder than these chumps do. It takes a lot of time and talent to make a blog. Some asshole plays a tune in a studio. Compare that to waiting and waiting for a fucking upload to finish.
Bloggers are marketing reps. Unpaid marketing reps. Shit all bloggers should be paid for giving away the music.
Spread the music around! Why the hell should we care about some singer's problems? We are having fun with our blogs and we deserve to do what we want.
All music should be free to give away. If the singer comes to town we should get free tickets. Shows are too expensive. They all have a big nerve taking links away that we work hard to put up. They have no respect for what bloggers do.
to the above.....you can not be serious if you think it is easier to write and record a great song than it is to click a few buttons.....
ReplyDeleteI am not about giving away free music I am about helping people discover new music that doesn't suck.....you know, just trying to get the music out there.
