Emmylou Harris - Live with James Burton 1976

What we have here is vintage country rock friends. Didn't get much information with this one, just that it was Emmylou Harris with James Burton....sometime in 1976. I take that to mean that this is her with the Hot Band, and this is shortly after "Elite Hotel" came out. Just know this, it's damn good and worth downloading. 'nuff said.

Gram Parsons & The Fallen Angels - Live in Boston 1973

This is what I would like to refer to as a rough recording. It's still pretty listenable, but this is probably for Gram completists only. His voice....which I usually don't like....is very good on here, not the recording but his voice. It suites these recordings well. And of course Emmylou is on this one too....her voice as always is angelic. The band is pretty hot too.

A Truer Sampler14 - The Sadies

Surf, bluegrass, byrdsian psychedelia, garage rock, country, spaghetti westerns, canada. If you like any 2 of those then odds are your gonna like The Sadies. If you like all of them then buddy you're gonna love 'em. Hailing from Canada The Sadies have been going at it since 1998. Core members are lead singer/guitarists Dallas and Travis Good, it's like someone locked them in a room when they were kids with nothing but ventures, byrds, various garage rock records, and two guitars. What came out is damned good. They can play.....buddy can they play. Some of the best b-bender licks since Clarence White invented the damned thing. They are known as one of the best live bands around too. Whether they are backing Alt Country diva Neko Case, dirty soul legend Andre Williams, or punk rock twangster Jon Langford....all of whom they have toured with and released album collaborations with.

This was kind of tricky to do, cause their songs are best heard on their albums...with all the quirky instrumentals and all. I tried to include some of that feel by adding some of my favorite instrumentals on here but it's still not the same.....the albums are great, get the albums. Their latest one New Seasons is in my opinion probably their best album and certainly one of the best albums of last year. Do not pass it up, if you like this get that album...it will not dissapoint.

Scott Miller/The Gougers - Live At Stubbs BBQ Austin TX 6-7-07

Speaking of BBQ.....here's a cool show of one of my new favorites opening for one of my old favorites. That's right, The Gougers opening for Scott Miller. This is a nice boot. The Gougers set is damned good (except for the partial Manheim Station), and the Scott Miller set is on par with his latest live album (though not mastered near as well....as expected). It's nice to hear some old V-Roys songs out of Scott too. This set actually reminds me of both Reconstruction and the V-Roys live album "Are You Through Yet?" as it includes the aforementioned V-Roys songs and one of my fave covers he does, Neil Young's "Motion Pictures".

speaking of Ray Wylie

Here's a nice little interview from this past August.

Can't wait for that new album....and a live version of Snake Farm wouldn't be too bad either. That's his son playing with him BTW. Some pretty good licks coming out of that young man. I'm excited about a new Ray Wylie album I tells ya

Ray Wylie Hubbard - Hideaway BBQ Raleigh NC 10-12-07

Here's some new Ray Wylie. Not the greatest recording in the world, but listenable. What's nice is the couple of new songs he throws in. And man the cover I made makes me huuuungry. Anybody else out there a fan of carolina style BBQ. If your not familiar with carolina style BBQ, it's smoked dry, pulled, put on a bun, then you douse it yourself with your favorite vinegar sauce....which consists of tomato-y vinegar or vinegar-y vinegar (Lexington sauce....with spices). Top it off with some slaw on top.....it's the only way to eat a BBQ sammich I tells ya.

RE-POST: Todd Snider - Tales From Moondawg's Tavern

I've said it before and I'll say it again....this is potentially the greatest bootleg of all time, and certainly the best thing to ever grace the pages of this site. Had a request for this so it's about time I re-upped it. This thing is phenomenal....if your not already a Todd Snider fan then just listen to this. If this doesn't capture your fancy, then i don't know what the hell you doing here.

the results are in...

Well, looks like there is a landslide victory for Sharebee and split files. That is what I will continue to do from now on. One thing this affects is that anytime I need to split a file it will have to be in RAR format.

I've been on the lookout for the bonus tracks to The Search, the ones that are only available through iTunes, not the bonus disc from Best Buy. And am I the only one who finds it ironic that on a disc where Farrar is railing agains commercialism he has these sweet deals that screw the fans with iTunes and Best Buy?

Anyway, if any of you fine readers know where I might find these extra tracks, please post.

Thanks,
TS

a truer caucus pt. I

So I've been mulling around a couple ideas thanks to some of you's guy's suggestions and comments. Here's the dilemma. I'm having a hard time finding a good 100mb+ file hosting service. I refuse to pay for such a service so that's off the table. I've been using Sharebee which works great for sub 100mb files and sharebig which is not so great for the larger ones.

You'll notice a hot new voting tab which your voice can be heard. The options are to use Sharebee but split the files into part1, part2, etc. Continue using sharebig which is flaky. Or start using a Bit Torrent, which is super easy for me cause I don't have to upload anything, just get it ready and post a link to the torrent file. Now the pros and cons of this are as follows: Pros - potentialy more frequent posts, potentialy longer seed times (you guys will control that), more downloads, it's free. Cons - first few people to download will be slow (I'm firewalled)

so there it is, vote early vote often.

Really diggin' these guys

It's The Gougers from Austin, the song here is called Old Crow/Scarecrow. Listen to the words, man that's some good writing. It's off their new album is called Long Day for The Weathervane, and it's one of the best of 07 for sure.

Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue - New Orleans 5-3-76

Here is a fantastic little bootleg. A Bob Dylan Rolling Thunder Revue show from 1976 in it's entirety. The mid 70's has always been my favorite Dylan era, so this is a special treat for me as well. Plus look at all those guests.....Bob Neuwirth (who assembled the Revue), Roger McGuinn, Kinky Friedman, T-Bone Burnett, Joan Baez, and Dennis Hopper....bet that was a hell of a party.
For some reason I made the covers blue but they came out tan when I posted them....oh well, I think I like the tan better anyway. Don't like what it did to Bob's picture on the back cover, but hell I don't feel like redoing it. Enjoy this guys, cause I know I am.

(I guess now would be a good time to say I plan on making all the shows I post on here @ 192 while if it's a mix it will still get the 128 treatment.....call it a new years resolution)

Steve Young - The Lemon Tree Scotland 4-5-05

Speaking of Steve Young and his son Jubal Lee, here is a Steve Young show that features Mr. Jubal Lee. Pretty good sound on this, and Steve Young can still sing like a whiskey soaked angel's choir. Features one of my favorite songs "Montgomery In The Rain". Give it a listen.

Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, and Robert Earl Keen - Boulder, CO 8-29-90

Sorry for the lack of posts guys. Dec. was a busy ass month for me, and I just didn't have the time. Hope to make it up this month, so to start it off here's a cool little boot of 3 well known texas troubadors. Two legends, and one noob (relatively speaking). All of this is good, and if you've never felt Robert Earl Keen was worth your time, this might just change your mind, as his songs are just as captivating as Townes' and Guy's. Hope you guys enjoy
