Heads up on a great free album: Ribbonpigeon - Steel Hearts (now known as The Only Sons)

Got turned on to this a while back but just now got a chance to listen to it thanks to a short business road trip. Have to say I'm pretty impressed. These guys hail from Mufreesboro, TN.....which is just far enough away from Nashville that they can barely smell the odor. Reminiscent of Wrinkle Neck Mules, Blue Mountain, and early Lucero, lead singer Kent Eugene Goolsby sounds like a blue collar Matthew Ryan with a little more whiskey in his throat. Highly recommended to check out.

From The Archives: Chris Knight - Live in Ottersum, Netherlands 2-4-07

Another one I've had in my back pocket. Seems like I may have gotten a request for this at some point in time. This is another one of my first ups. A very good intimate show of Chris in the Netherlands.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a nice little acoustic Chris Knight show from last month in the Netherlands. The info I have says it is in Ottersum, CC Roepaen The Netherlands and that Ty Tyler is with him. I don't know where that is or who Ty Tyler is, but it's a good show none-the-less. The stark arrangements of these songs really bring the lyrics out and the stories they weave really jump out at you. There is some nice between song chatter too where he talks about his inspirations. Only dissapointment is the fact that "If I Were You" is not played.

  1. Becky's Bible
  2. Rural Route
  3. Enough Rope

From The Archives: Old Crow Medicine Show - Trouble Up and Down The Road EP

Here's one I've had ready to go for a while but was saving it for a time when I didn't feel like posting new stuff. Well I thought I would throw it up now to make up for the two week hiatus you guys had to go through.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Might as well throw this in while I'm at it. This is a limited edition EP that was released in 2001, I'm guessing sometime after Eutaw. This is one of my favorite Old Crow discs.....it's just a young eagar band playing good old timey music. The first track Rub Alcohol Blues is killer. Alos features probably the earliest recorded version of Wagon Wheel (barring Bob Dylan's original) that has a nice steel guitar on it.

1. Rub Alcohol Blues
2. Big Sciota
3. Blue-Eyed Girl
4. Darlin' Corey
5. Little Sadie
6. Wagon Wheel

(excerpt from liner notes) The Old Crow Medicine Show was kicking around the foam house in Whites Creek the other day. All the boys were there and all their dogs too, hanging round the hoods of various junk cars, spitting and smoking, laughing and joking. Someone started talking about Prince's Hot Chicken Shack which is down the way from the old Crows nest on Dickerson Rd. Dill pickles and greasy chicken laid over two slices of Bunny Bread. Of course we immediately started thinking about our buddy Dub who kept Prince's in business through some of the lean years. Then someone remembered a recording we made for Dub back in September, the Dub dub as it was then known.

Todd Snider - Countryfried

Well hell, I've had this one ready to go for about 2 weeks now but haven't had a chance to sit down at a computer and post it. I could have swore actually that I had posted it sometime in the past....but I'll be damned, I hadn't. So here it is. This is probably the most interesting Todd rarity thing I have. Imagine if you will if Todd's main sources of inspiration were not Kristofferson & Prine, but instead Waylon & Hank Jr. That would give you a pretty good idea of what to expect here. Some really good stuff here, though you can tell it's demo quality. Also a few hiccups here and there that I hope don't bother you guys too bad cause this is the best version I got. Highlight on here is the ode to the princess of country music Emmylou Harris....titled of course Emmylou....where Snider belts out "I hope them angels sing as good as Emmylou".

PS: To the guy who said he couldn't get sharebee to work and the other anti-sharbee-ites (:P) sorry about this and the next few still being in sharebee, I am looking for a suitable replacement but the search continues.

Todd Snider - Viva Satellite Demos

As promised, the Viva Satellite Demos. The shining star on this set (in my opinion at least), is Got That Feeling Again. There are some other great cuts on here, like I Want Out, Wide Awake, Fine Tune (a welcome addition to any Todd Snider collection) and I really dig the version of Godsend on here. Just like Viva Satellite this thing has a real Tom Petty vibe to it.

From The Archives: Todd Snider - Colorado Demos

So I've got a string of Todd Snider posts coming up, mostly re-ups with a couple new ones thrown in because dammit it's been too long!

Here is what Eighteen Minutes has to say about this one.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Couldn't find much info on this one here. Near as I can tell, it was recorded sometime between "Step Right Up" and "Viva Satelite". That would put it in the 1997 time frame. Makes a nice little linker between the two albums. If you dig old Todd, this is right up your alley.

From The Archives: Old 97's - Live Mix

This one is great, one of my first ups from almost 2 years ago. This was back before I was making covers for everything too. I compiled all these tracks back in the days of napster and burnt them to 2 CDs. 74 minute CD's, remember those.....when you couldn't get the 80 minute ones :)

I'm still very fond of the ACL tracks off this. Has that been released to DVD yet? If not if really should be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This 2-disc set is comprised of a full concert at the Crocodile Cafe on May 29, 1999. Their full Austin City Limits set from Jan. 26, 1998, and a few tracks from the Gypsy Tea Room on an unknown date which are primarily Buck Owens covers. The highlight here is definitely the Austin City Limits set which is all songs from Too Far To Care. The Crocodile Cafe concert is good in it's own right, as I think the songs off Fight Songs sound much better live than in studio.

From The Archives: Commander Cody - Hill Auditorium - Ann Arbor, Michigan 1969

Another one by request here. This one is still sharebee, as I haven't made a decision yet.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Damn, it's been about a month since my last post.....sorry guys just haven't had a chance. This one has actually been in the can for a while but I'm just now getting around to posting it. This is pure bar room honky tonk. Nothing less, nothing more. Just listen to Kirchen blast out those classic classic country guitar licks.....always puts a smile on my face. Call this a primer in rowdy country rock for those less fortunate :P

Downloader's blues

So I've been getting some feedback that sharebee sucks....that it's full of adware and God knows what else. I will switch to something else if I can find a suitable alternative. The reason I have been using it is I was impressed with the longevity of the files I've been uploading. Also they allow 150mb uploads which to me is pretty important because I hate splitting files (see all the problems with those in the comments of any file I split).

So here are my requirements for a good upload site: Long lifespan for the downloads, at least 150mb uploads. That's pretty much it. Oh and easy to download too.....that's important to you guys of course (which means no download limits, etc....)

So I stuck a poll on the side....I misspelt Sharebee as Sharbee.....that's OK.....that's how I pronounce it anyway.....like Shar the singer....you know Sonny & Shar!!! :)

From The Archives: A Truer Sampler 01 thru 14

So in honor of 2 years, here they are again, all they "Truer Samplers" I have made to date. A Couple things I noticed while putting this post together: The Whiskeytown one has an error on the cover (wrong number), The Bottle Rockets one was posted on the 4th of July (how fitting), I think I might have done the Texas one a little different if I was doing it today, and someone left a comment on the Tom T. Hall one that "The Monkey that Became President" should have been included cause it was an election year.....I hope Al Sharpton doesn't see that cause he might get us shut down for retroactive racism :)
